"Gangsta's..."

I was sitting here with my man B Lee watching college hoops on Saturday and during halftime caught the highlight, or low-lights of the scrap between Xavier and Cincinnati.

They then cut into the press conference live and we got to see Tu Holloway and his teammate at the podium. Right after they spoke we both looked at each other and knew, they were going to catch hell for their comments.

While it shocked me that they did not walk up to podium and be extra apologetic, I  pleasantly shocked. Tu and his teamate were guilty of being brutally honest. Cinci's players were popping off at the mouth all game and they werent going to be bullied.

TV talking heads and holier-than-thou journalist alike clung on the the phrase "we have a bunch of gangstas in the locker room" like old racist hold on the racist term "race card". Conveniently ignoring not just the context, but his words directly after.

Blackout

So after watching Ndamukong Sue ridiculous explanation about what went through his mind during the stomping incident on Thanksgiving, I couldn't help but wonder if he even believed what he was saying. It made me think about Roger Clemons explanation after throwing a jagged piece of wood at another man's head during a game. Believe it or not, there were some that actually believed that garbage. They chalked it up to Roger "being in a zone" and his "intensity on the mound" But what makes one more believable than the other?

Tebow

I am someone who loves to see when conventional methods are thrown into the wind. I have also been a Tim Tebow fan as well. So I am absolutely loving to watch his success....proselytizing aside. NFL coaches, more so than other sports, are the most transitional and unwilling to try things that are different. It is the reason why they have historically kept Black and and/or "running" quarterbacks out of the league and or away from the position.

So while I am happy to see Tebow shake their ideas of what it means to be a quarterback in the NFL, it also leaves me curious, if not saddened.  Curious about what it would have been like if Charlie Ward would have had a coach commit to him and run an offense tailored to his skill set. Or any of the other countless Black and/or running who were given the bigoted ultimatum of either stop doing what you are good at and stand here in the pocket like the statuesque caricature image of a q.b. that we have established as the status quo, or go play a different position.

Tim is certainly not the first to have this style of play, but he is the first to be given a somewhat genuine opportunity to play to his strengths.

Again, I am pro-Tebow but the question is, why him?

"Deceptive Speed"

Huh?!

Kirk Herbstreit just used that term to describe Andrew Luck the athletic Stanford quarterback during tonight's game vs N.D.
